Gary Peters Photoshops out "Polo" Logo on Literature

by: chetly

Peters Photoshop Trick on Political LiteratureThis is priceless.

Gary Peters' decided to Photoshop/Airbrush out the "Polo" logo on his shirt in his literature.  Not that I have anything against Photoshop, but using it to deceive, rather than enhance (lighting techniques, cropping, etc. all seem reasonable), is at least questionable ethically (while there is no rulebook in political literature design, common sense should apply).  The "Polo" brand carries with it a somewhat "elitist" image which doesn't with the common-guy image Gary might prefer.

The funnier thing is that they did it to one of the pictures on the same piece of literature but forgot to do it to the other picture with the same shirt.

Gary, how much are you paying those consultants?

Are you kidding me, Chet (0.00 / 0)
Wow, don't you have anything better to do than compare pictures and shirt and logs?  How do you know it's even the same shirt?  Boy, Joe's in real trouble if this is the best you can do.

Questions Gary Peters must answer: (0.00 / 0)
1) Was the Polo logo photo shopped OFF one of the pictures or ON to the other?

2) If it was photoshopped OFF one of the pictures... why?

3) Did your campaign focus group polo shirts?

4) Do you think the "Polo" logo clashes with the attempted imagery of your literature piece? (Blue collar, no tie, rolled-up sleeves.)

5) Why?

6) Was the consultant who put together this piece the same consultant who put together that photo of you "teaching" "CMU students" that looked an awful lot like a bunch of union workers in a break-room only to have the caption changed to remove all references to teaching CMU students?

7) If so, who is this image consultant?  If I ever do another campaign I'd like to make sure I know who to recommend my candidate avoid.

8) How often have you actually had to roll up your sleeves during the last couple decades you've spent as a politician, a failed political candidate and a bureaucrat?

Now... if someone could put together a big plaster and paper Gary Peters head and follow him into the drug store one of these days maybe we could get some answers!

Typical Republican nonsense (0.00 / 0)
None of this makes a bit of difference to voters who are paying $4 a gallon for gas or who are losing their homes to foreclosure.

nonsense? (0.00 / 0)
This from the guy who wears a papier machie head.  If anyone knows something about elevating the political discourse...

You're just jealous (0.00 / 0)
of my creativeness and effectiveness.  Besides, I was asking Joe about real issues, not worried about whether Joe was wearing a Polo brand shirt or not.

Oh, and I left out Joe's horrible record on health care and voting against expanding SCHIP to cover 10 million more children.

Bruce, unlike you (0.00 / 0)
Unlike you, when you pinpoint the trivial and blow it into the ridiculous, I don't think this issue is the central point of the campaign.  So we agree to a point (although I don't think this means nothing, either -- its a sign of a larger set of issues Peters will have to deal with).  But OaklandPolitics is news site by a political consultant that discusses interesting issues of literature design, strategy, deception, etc.  I think this is news to my readers more because of 1) its absolute humor 2) that Peters' consultants thought it was important enough to Photoshop (I mean, who is being trivial here -- me, or the his consultant?) 3) deception occurs in patterns, and often repeated.  Nick reminds us of the deceptive CMU photo - I forgot about that.

As far as your "creativity", I'm not in the least jealous of you  While I credit your giant head for being out of the mainstream, loud, and obnoxious, I wouldn't confuse that with creativity.  First, its been done before, in other races.  Second, it is a technique of a media whore - someone desperate for media coverage at every turn.  I only rarely seek out media coverage in comparison to the number of things I write about on investigative matters, or the number of things I do for clients politically.  I only do so when I determine it in the best interests of a client, or it facilitates a critical mission.  Most of my work appeals to my niche audience, and I accept that.  I wouldn't consider sending this story to the media for all these reasons.  I simply found it fascinating.

And it is pot calling kettle names for you to say that this is trivial.  You're daily tirade nitpicks the size of Joe's toenails.

Joe's Toenails (0.00 / 0)
Chetly,

I don't give a rip about the size of Joe's toe nails.  What I care about are the 47 million Americans with no health care coverage.

What I care about are the tens of thousands of our brave soldiers having to serve 2,3,4 and five tours in a war zone that our President lied us into.

What I care about is an economy that has been devastated by unfair trade deals that Joe Knollenberg voted for.

What I care about are the 10 million children that have no health insurance today because Joe Knollenberg voted no on overriding President Bush's veto of SCHIP.

What I care about is the fact that our President outed a covert CIA agent and then lied about it to the American public.

What I care about is our soldiers committing suicide at the highest rates in history due to their utter despair.

Those are just for starters what I care about, Chetly.

Well then, you deviate from your cares alot.
