If you've ever waited in line for a hot rock band, you know its always hard to predict when to show up to get in line for the limited number of tickets. While there are no tickets for tomorrow's health care townhall by Congressman Gary Peters, it is a first-come first-serve seating situation and everyone seems to be fighting for seats. In a flurry of e-mails and lists blasts on both sides, the 9th District Republican and Democratic Committees, county and state parties, and a host of independent actors are escalating their times. Early today, several Republican and federalization of health care protest groups were suggesting 5pm as an arrival time for Peters' 6pm event (Tues, Sept. 1)at the West Bloomfield High School Auditorium at 4925 Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield, MI 48323. Not to be outdone, the 9th District Democratic Committee issued this remarkable e-mail, suggesting its supporters arrive 2 hours early, at 4pm. The e-mail is remarkable in that it focuses on the "tea baggers" as the driving force behind the movement, and ADMITS they have had several "victories". The message is below - its tone against "tea baggers" is derisive but admits some broad strength when it says "various groups" and pleas not to let them "claim another victory". Given the message's "pre-written narrative" that tea-baggers will be "hysterical" and a "screaming match," I'd strongly encourage all participants to disprove that script as several other peaceful townhalls (that somehow don't get sensationalized media coverage) have demonstrated. Prove democracy can be spirited and passionate without fitting a script, but I'm sure some of Wed's story is already written for and by some regardless of actual behaviors or outcomes. Gary Peters Town Hall Meeting Tuesday
Teabaggers Plan to Pack Town Hall on Health Care Congressman Gary Peters will host a health care townhall meeting Tuesday, September 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at West Bloomfield High School located at 4925 Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield, in the school's auditorium. Several 9th district party members have forwarded emails from various groups of "tea baggers" urging their members to arrive at 5pm and pack the town hall meeting so that supporters of Gary Peters and health care reform cannot get in ("thank you" everyone who forwarded those emails). The tea baggers plan to turn this town hall into another hysterical screaming match. Please arrive at 4:00 pm if you are able. If you can't arrive that early still come as soon as you are able. Tuesday is the day that the 9th District shows where it stands on health care reform. Signs will not be allowed inside the building, but if you arrive late and cannot get in please bring a sign and join the pro-health-care-reform group in the parking lot. Don't sit at home and let the "tea baggers" claim another victory. Your presence is needed, and bring family members and friends: - Tuesday, September 1st
