| The City of Clawson and Clawson School District will have two interesting tax questions on the ballot Tuesday. To voters everywhere else - check to see if you have a May election. It's important, regardless of your political inclination, and often overlooked. Here's an interesting piece of mail from local anti-tax activist Paul Garfield - brother of former state representative John Garfield and former Michigan Ron Paul for President campaign chair, whom we reported on exclusively when he was released from that position. The city library has put a request on the ballot, and the school board is asking to renew a sinking fund it let lapse in 2005 and 2006. The thing came through the mail, which I found a bit interesting given the low levels of funding the group is known for. Garfield has taken credit in the past for having a grassroots organization of between 150-1000 voters, but in 2006 failed to get the roughly 1300 signatures needed recall any of the 5 council members he had targeted for passing a road bond proposal onto the ballot a second time, which failed by a couple dozen votes the first time around and succeeded by the same the second. Given the economy, this will be an interesting one to watch. |
